The FIRST in Michigan State Championship has finished and for the first time in team history, Gray Matter has won a State Championship!
-
Along with our partners Team 27 Team RUSH, Team 51 Wings of Fire, and Team 4405 The Atoms Family, our alliance went undefeated in the InterDivisional Playoffs. Gray Matter also set the event high score numerous times, including the top high score of 138 in the State Championship-clinching match.
Along with winning the event, we also won the Autonomous Award for the first time in team history. With an AI-assisted path generation system and vision recognition system, our bot’s programmed capabilities wowed the judges.
Due to our many successes this weekend, Gray Matter has qualified for the FIRST World Championship in Houston, TX, and will compete on the international stage starting Wednesday, April 17th.
We would like to take the time to thank all of our amazing sponsors, mentors, friends, and supporters. Without the tremendous amount of support from our community, Gray Matter could never be the team it is today.
Out of Clarkston High School, Team RUSH is a 28-year Hall Of Fame Team. Standing for Respect, Unity, Spirit, and Heart (RUSH), this team boasts an incredible record and presence within the FIRST Community. In winning the Michigan State Championship, RUSH has secured 2 more blue banners to add to their collection of 38 in total.

Team 51, Wings of Fire, stems from two prior FIRST Teams (47- Chief Delphi & 65- Huskie Brigade). In 2009, the team's school districts (Pontiac Northern High School & Pontiac Central High School) merged and Wings of Fire rose from the ashes and became Team 51. In 2023, the team fell short of winning the State Championship, losing in the finals. However, 2024 brought redemption for this Hall of Fame team, and now marks their 29th consecutive year of moving on to compete at the FIRST Championship.

Hemlock's Gray Matter dominated the new Hemlock Semiconductor Field during the State Championship held at Saginaw Valley State University. Following two days of intense qualification matches, we secured rank 1, earning the role of Alliance 1 Captain.
Guiding our alliance through the playoffs, we experienced a setback in match #11, knocking us down to the lower bracket. Nevertheless, we persevered and advanced to the finals, where we triumphed over Alliance 7 with a record of 2-0.
